MPSC Group B recruitment 2026 — 552 vacancies for PSI, STI and ASO posts

The Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) has released Advertisement No. 011/2026 for the recruitment of 552 Group B (Non-Gazetted) posts across three services — Police Sub-Inspector (PSI), State Tax Inspector (STI) and Assistant Section Officer (ASO). The last date to apply is 14 May 2026 (11:59 PM). The Combined Preliminary Examination is scheduled for 14 June 2026 across 37 district centres in Maharashtra.

Educational qualification

  • Graduation in any discipline from a recognised statutory university

  • Final year students may apply for Prelims — degree must be completed before the Mains application deadline

  • Knowledge of Marathi language is mandatory for all posts

Selection process

All posts

  1. Prelims — 100 questions, 100 marks, 1 hour | Negative marking 1/4 | Screening only — marks not counted in merit

  2. Mains — 400 marks | Paper 1 common for all posts | Paper 2 is post-specific (different for ASO, STI and PSI)

PSI only (additional stages)

  1. Physical Test — 100 marks | Minimum 60 required to qualify

  2. Interview — 40 marks

Final merit:

  • ASO and STI: Based on Mains marks only

  • PSI: Based on Mains + Physical Test marks

  4. Fill personal details, educational qualification, post preference and exam district choice

  5. Upload documents if claiming reservation (PDF, 50 KB–500 KB) — general candidates do not need to upload documents at Prelims stage

Frequently asked questions

Can final year students apply?

Yes. Final year students are eligible to apply for the Preliminary exam. However, they must pass their graduation degree before the Mains application deadline — candidates without a completed degree cannot appear for the Mains exam.

Is there a physical test for STI and ASO?

No. The Physical Test is only for the PSI (Police Sub-Inspector) post. STI and ASO selection is based on Prelims and Mains only — no physical fitness stage.

Can candidates from other states apply?

Yes, but they will be treated as Open (Unreserved) category candidates. Reservation benefits — SC/ST/OBC/EWS/Women/Sports/PwD/Orphan — are applicable only to Maharashtra domicile candidates.
